My friends and I (8 of us total) are going camping and have yet to find a good location. We're either going to Michigan, Indiana, or Wisconsin. We want there to be swimming, alcohol allowed, and maybe fishing. Please let me know if you know of any good places.
Answer
Try Michigan. There are thousands of places you can tent camp, and it's tough to find a spot in Michigan that doesn't have fishing. Check out S. Manitou Island. It's a few miles off the NW part of the Lower Peninsula. NO motorized anything. Or, Islwe Royal, in Lake Superior. As for alcohol, as long as you are 21, and don't behave stupidly, nobody will care. Consider a canoe camping trip. You copuld rent several canoes, and ride for a couple days down one of our beautiful rivers, like the Ausable. You camp by the side of the river, and paddle off in the morning. Rental operations can fix you up with everything you need, and drive you upstream for 50-100 miles. And, it's not all that expensive. Just a thought.

Does anyone know of horse camps in the Midwest?
Q.
Answer
Oh yes, if you mean places to go camp with your horse. If you're looking at a summer camp type thing, still try the Indiana DNR website below. Some facilities used to have day camps that can be combined with a week of camping.
In Indiana, go to the state's website and look up the rec areas and state forests: http://www.in.gov/dnr
There's the lovely Brown County State Park, Deam Lake, O'Bannon, Clark State Forest... Federal areas would be the Blackwell Horse Camp (16 Corners to the locals) Midwest Trail Ride (www.midwesttrailride.com) are two nice areas for the Hoosier National Forest...Further south in Indiana is Shirley Creek, Jone's Creek. Owen Putnam State Forest.
Over in Southern Illinois is the Shawnee National Forest...I love Bear Branch Camp ground. Dick Manders is just a great guy. Lots of riding there.
