I am going to Montana for vacation in either August or September this year and am looking for some cheap places to camp (tent) but I also want to go fishing. What are some good places to go. Would really like to go on the river where the movie "A River Runs Through It" was made.
Answer
That movie was filmed on the gallatin river which is near Yellowstone NP. As for camping areas around Missoula check this web site for campgrounds (http://www.fs.fed.us/) there are plenty of rivers, creeks, lakes, & ponds for fishing in the Missoula area. http://fwp.mt.gov/fishing/default.html

Camping in yellowstone this winter.?
Mr. Chill
Hi, my friends and I were thinking of gowing to yellowstone this winter, and I was wondering if anyone had had any experience with that. I suspect it will be freezing cold, but we want to actually camp and hike around up there. Is that going to be possible? What does the temp reach this time of year. I guess what im asking is 1. should we do it and 2. how can we survive and have a good time up there if we do? thanks
Answer
Why not go to the Yellowstone NP web site and find the answers there? Here's the link:
http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/hours.htm
Mammoth is the only campground open all year round; all the others are closed during the winter.
As for the weather conditions, here's what I found on the web site:
Winter: Temperatures often range from zero to 20F(-20 to -5C) throughout the day. Sub-zero temperatures over-night are common. The record low temperature is -66F (-54C). Snowfall is highly variable. While the average is 150 inches per year, it is not uncommon for higher elevations to get twice that amount.
Freezing cold? Yes! Could you survive? Yes, if you take the proper precautions. If not, then you'll become another statistic and your relatives will be sad.
