Is camping a popular form of accomodation with backpackers in Malaysia and Phillippines?

Answer
Not really.

There are a few camping sites in both Malaysia and the Philippines, such as Cameron Highlands (Malaysia) and Camp John Hay (the Philippines), but in general, camping is done with others, preferably with acquaintances from local camping enthusiasts.

In the Philippines, where I am now based, camping is fairly popular in the mountain resorts of the Cordilleras, as well as in the beaches throughout the Philippines. Indeed, "tent-living" is gradually becoming one of the "in"-stuff to do here. However, it is usually done only if you have a companion (preferably a local camping team).

Are there any family friendly Campsites in Malaysia and Thailand?

I, my female friend and her two boys aged 10, and 12 would like to go on a 3- month camping trip to Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan and South Korea. Does anyone know of any Camping sites there where children are allowed to go.

Answer
The only campsite in Thailand I know about is on the Island of Ko Miang ( a marine national park in the Similan Islands)
