Hi, where is the most kid friendly place to go camping with kids near New York?

I.G.

I've heard of Yogi Bear camping grounds. Anyone else have ideas? Thanks
Wow Trish, thanks so much for your time and for making me really think of the reason why I want to take the kids.

I've never gone before and I just wanted to rent a nice cabin for the little kids (their 6 and 8) so we can experience the woods and being indoors playing board games in the winter. Lol, do I sound like a novice or what. I envision opening our cabin door and having a view of the lake (unfortunately it's too cold for swimming now), me making hot chocolate while we play games and read stories and take them to the camp activities for kids. Sound too unplanned? =)
Here's your 10 pts!! LOL,

Thanks so much for your incredibly awesome answer!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
Some of it will depend on what you want to do. The "Camp Jellystone" chain will offer lots of things to do that don't necessarily have anything to do with camping, like miniature golf, playground equipment, beach volleyball court, etc. A state park might offer more nature-oriented opportunities, like fishing in a real lake or river instead of a stocked pond, hiking on wooded trails where they might actually spot a deer if they walk quietly enough, and so on, but is less likely to have flush toilets or shower facilities.

Also, are you taking an RV, or are you tent camping? If an RV, how important is it to you to have hook-ups for power, water, and sewage? A lot of commercial campgrounds will offer these, while many parks are more primitive and may have no more than a dump station.

Think carefully about what you and the kids really want to get out of this camping trip. Are you "camping" because that's a relatively cheap way of enjoying a destination without a hotel bill, or are you camping for its own sake, to experience a simplified lifestyle out in the wild? Or would you like a little of each, with not too much of either?

If you can add more details well before your question expires, we can probably help you find something just right.

EDITED IN LIGHT OF ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
Sounds like the advice you got was good! Yogi Bear's campground is about a hundred miles from New York City, and they have cabins of various sizes, with lots to do. (There's more to do in the summer, but it sounds like the kids will have fun this time of year, too, especially if you do bring some board games and a deck of cards.)

Here's a link to the page that talks about the cabins:

If you're planning to go near the holidays, I'd suggest making reservations right away, because I'm sure they fill up fast.

Have a good time!

EDITED TO ADD:
Don't forget my 10 points! :)

Answer
yes there are thousands of places to camp. http://woodalls.com/ lists all that there is. Look into the national forests near you for some really nice places.
Good luck!
