best camping sites near los angeles?

kitty

i just want to know the best camping sites near los angeles for the summer and to have a great time with friends

Answer
Hi Wendy, the "Best" sites are booked 6 months in advance in the so cal area. All your beach campgrounds from Monterrey south to the mexican border, all your lake, river destinations that are reservable go so fast that you need to plan now for next summers fun. Now there are first served campsites in the national forests around the south land and if you leave by thursday night it's possible to find the spot your looking for. Also some KOA type campgrounds may have spots open too.

to give you some of my favorite reservable sites are,
Serrano Campground @ big bear lake
Silverwood lake near Crestlline Ca.
Hemet lake near Idylwild Ca.
Hobo Campground the Kern river
Malibu Creek State park.

For some first served sites
South Fork Santa ana River campground near Angelous Oaks ca.
Applewhite in Lytle Creek Ca.
Lake in Wrightwood Ca.

Anyway here are a few links with local camping info

Any good camping sites? I'm willing to drive up ~300 miles to a good one. I've been to Big Bear and it was pretty but I would like to know other nice ones.
Or do you have a site where I can book? I use one website to book but I forgot what it was, it's been over a year since I last booked.

Answer
The site you want is reserveamerica.com, or www.recreation.gov.

Big Bear is OK, but once you've been to Yosemite (just under 300 miles), you may never be satisfied anywhere else.

Carpinteria State Beach
Yosemite National Park
