All my family is going to Kern River, CA for this fourth of july weekend... and they are begging me to go. Only problem is my baby is 3 months old and she hates the heat. They're saying it wont be that hot since will be camping by the river, but I'm still not sure if its a good idea. Need some advice..

My husband and I took our daughter camping for 3 days when she was 1 1/2 months old. She loved it! It's just one of those things though. Your baby may like it or not. Only one way to find out. Try to find a shady area to camp in. We had bought a huge 2 bedroom tent with a screened in front porch. We opened the 2 rooms to make 1 big one and I was able to fit her bassinet in the room with us. I was also able to fit all the coolers and her swing in the porch area. If you have a camper it may be easier but could get stuffy.

How to get rid of snakes in my yard?

BeagleMomm

I live in AR, we have recently had quite a lot of rain. My backyard has a small river in it.
I have recently had to take care of a fire ant problem... but then I have also come across a few snake holes while walking my dogs in the past few days.

I realize it's only natural that they be here, but I have a horrible fear of snakes. I was bitten by one as a kid and I'm just completely terrified of them now. Even the ones that aren't poisonous or don't bite. I cannot stand to look at them.

If I can't get rid of them completely in my yard, how do I at least keep them away from the house? So I don't have to be afraid to leave my back porch? Is there a time of the season when they will just naturally go away?

I'm also afraid of my dogs finding one and trying to play with it and getting hurt. Can this happen?

Any help would be appreciated. Please - serious answers only. Thank you everyone.

Answer
alright. Snakes are pretty dangerous reptiles to begin with. i hope i did bring u some help.

Best solution is to contact the local pest control and ask them to advise your situation and probably set traps to catch them.

For your part, U might want to clean up your rubbish around yard if you have any. This might lead to attracting rodents, which is food for the snakes.

Clean the possible hide outs as well. (Get rid of lumber piles, trash piles, high weeds and grasses, and debris) If you are out doing so, so should anyone u know are, please advise them to put on heavy boots and pants as a precaution. Be cautious and keep a lookout at areas where u are stepping or handling which might be possible areas of rest for the snakes. Block openings where snakes might enter buildings. Snakes can pass through extremely small openings and usually enter near or below ground level. Be sure doors, windows, and screens fit tightly. Search walls and floors for holes or crevices. Inspect the masonry of foundations, fireplaces, and chimneys; plug or cement cracks. Plug spaces around pipes that go through outside walls. Fasten galvanized screen over drains or ventilators, or over large areas of loose construction.

If you do encounter any snakes, do not try to provoke it and take note of its appearance, this will greatly help the pest control. Should anyone be bitten, do not allow the victim to eat nor drink especially alcohol. Do not place ICE on the wounds, do not attempt to give anti-venom or anti-anxiety medications.

During your time in the yard, do keep a stick handy. Explain to your children or family about the serious-ness of the situation and best keep the dog indoors for the time being as you do not know whether the snakes are poisonous.

OR

i have always used this methods during long camps in the wild. I used SULPHUR as a precaution and dump the powder in a circle around my tent to prevent pest and snakes.

lastly, i personally dont believe there is a season where they will go away. They might be here due to possible food sources or like u said, the rain. Its better to solve the problem on hand than to wait for something to happen.

I hope the snakes will go away! Good luck!
