A small group of friends and I are interested in going camping this summer. We're all around 18 and 19 years old, and don't feel the need to pay an arm and a leg to camp in tents. We're just looking for a place that will let us camp for a few days (since some sites consider 21 years or old as an adult, others it's 18). Does anyone know where we could go? I'm having a hard time finding places online.

Answer
National forests do not have age restrictions and they don't cost an arm and leg. look for sites in the Alleghenny national forest.

Where should I take my photographer boyfriend away as a surprise to get good pictures of stars?

I want to surprise my boyfriend by taking him away to a nice hotel somewhere in the uk, but as he loves taking pictures of the stars - and I know that's difficult unless you're in certain places, I would love to be able to take him somewhere perfect for this. Need photographer help! Any ideas?

Answer
Hotels aren't usually so great because they are in towns, where there is light. You might be better off trying to find a campsite somewhere like Dartmoor, the Lake District, west coast of Wales, or the Scottish Highlands.

You'll still to walk/drive a little way away from the campsite and then you'll need to sit in the dark and wait for at least 15 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the darkness. If possible, turn off or cover up the LCD display on your digital camera and avoid using your phone, as the backlight of the screen will dazzle you. Don't use a torch because this will spoil your night vision. Either wait until you can see clearly in the dark, or use a red LED rear bike light. It won't affect your night vision so much.

You will need a tripod to get any decent pictures of the night sky. Other non-technical things you will need: warm clothes, fingerless gloves, flask of hot drink, camping chairs. It gets surprisingly cold outside at night, even in summer, so wrap up warm!

Have fun,
Jonathan
