I'm looking for some places to camp this winter break. Ideally, it would have a lot of backpacking routes and a lot of trees. Trees are a must!
Answer
Well in southern cali the choices are pretty big compared going north as mountain man suggested since up north everything is soon to be snowed in. However southern cali does have it's winter time closures as well, most campgrounds above 3000 feet get closed and or the water is shut off so you have to look for dispersed camping sites and bring your own everything. Coastal area's remain open year round as do all the private operations, all the lake destinations are open including Big Bear's camp grounds through the end of December. The best option this time of year is the desert area's in particular Joshua Tree and Anza Borego. My top winter choice is the Agua Caliente hot springs and camp ground in Anza borego. Reservations go quick this time of year, Good Luck!
