I want to buy a truck and put a cab cover thing on and wondered if I could use a closed bed truck to tow a 5th wheel or if I have to leave the bed open to connect the 5th wheel. I need a place to store camping gear when it isn't being used.
Answer
It all Depends on what size Fifth-Wheel you have, If you do not want to go to any expense then don't even think about a short box pickup, Some 1/2 ton trucks can do the trick, depending again on size of 5th wheel.
The bed of your truck has to be open as the rails and hitch are attached to your frame. some people have had covers made that go around hitch leaving the pintle open.
As far as storage place? Well most 5th wheels come with alot of storage compartments that can be used to store camping gear.
I my self would go with a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. And again, depending on size, go with a diesel engine as it has more torque vs. a gas motor.

I am taking a trip up to Canada, going to be in a canoe & roughing it a bit ... I don't have any camping gear in a company form -
Anyone have any suggestions on websites that are great for camping gear? (especially compact/light camping gear)
