best camping places in lebanon image
John
the other day I kind of overheard a conversation between two Lebanese, and one said yes Khiam center was a really terrible place, the other said it was a symbol of Israeli dominance.
Can somebody inform me more about Khiam?
Answer
El Khiam was a concentration camp built by the Israelis and later run by the SLA.

There are some testimony by witnesses that were imprisoned there.

What is the absolute cheapest way to get to the Middle East?
Aaron S
I would like to backpack around Lebanon, Jordan, Iran...some places like that that. BUT-airfare to any of those places is crazy expensive for a college student. What is the cheapest way of getting there? PLEASE don't leave links to expedia or kayak, etc...everyone already knows that.
Answer
You need to be careful in Jordan and Lebanon. It is not for backpacking. I've seen Abu Musif Al Zaqawi martyr posters in Jordan. That guy has the blood of thousands of Shia civilians on his hands. If you stray to far from the Christian section in Beirut, you would make an easy target for Hasan Nasralla's militia or Al Qaeda sympathizers in the Palestinian camps. If you want to go backpacking, go to Turkey. It is safe and a million times more beautiful than Arab countries. I am neutral on Iran, as I have no experience there. Though, I don't think you would find any English speakers there.
