Can you go camping anywhere in the new forest?

me and a few friends were planning to do like a 24hr sponsored walk in the new forest, or something like that, to raise money for world challenge. can you put up a tent anywhere and sleep in it or do you have to go to a camp site? if you have to go to a campsite how much does it cost for one tent?

There are camp sites. However, if you were just spending one night and were well away from the roads, I doubt that anybody would notice.

I live in the New Forest and I see the odd camper van spending a single night in some of the car parks. Not many people object as long as the campers are tidy and clear up after themselves. Of course, if the authorities spot you, they will move you on.

I would really like to go camping but I want to go camping where there aren't a lot of people everywhere, no electricity, everything on your own kind of thing, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any Class D/Primitive camping sites in the Illinois/Wisconsin area.
