We're in the Cities. Looking for something not crowded, to rent a cabin or even pitch a tent if nice enough, fishing and boat rental.

My favorite places for camping are:
Scenic State Park which is north of Grand Rapids....it is way up north but its well worth the drive. Beautiful place, beautiful lakes. You can hear loons crying out at night from the lake
Bearhead Lake State Park which is up north of Duluth ....great camping sites right on the lake. Beautiful place.
Lake Itasca State Park ....not so far from Bemidji.....has the source of the Mississippi River.....really beautiful place but it can get crowded very quickly.
And then there are a whole lot of great parks all up and down the North Shore of Lake Superior.
Hope this helps!

Anyone know of a great secluded place to camp in Minnesota?
Q. We're looking for a place to "get a way" from the buzz of the cities and would like a very secluded place to tent for a weekend. We don't mind roughing it (actually it's preferred) no running water, no electricity is fine with us. We just need a place to set up camp. Know of any secluded places to camp?
Answer
hmmmm...
Umm... let's see. Frontenac is a good one, it's down by red wing - about an hour south of the cities. There's some good hiking along the mississippi river bluffs.
I used to always go up to Cushing, which is on Highway 10 about 2 and a half hours north. If you can find somewhere near clear water/clear lake, there is great places to stop there for meat (at mcdonalds meats - and old fashioned butcher) and there's a great truck stop too. Actually, detroit lakes is up there, and I know there's great camping there!
