We will be camping as a family (we have three sons ages 10, 12, 15). I'd like to avoid RV's - a tent campsite is preferable. We are hoping to find a quiet spot with access to showers. There seem to be lots of choices but it's hard to tell the difference online. Any recommendations would be very helpful and appreciated!

Answer
Eagles Nest Wilderness Area northeast of Vail or Holy Cross Wilderness Area southwest of Vail, either is a spectacular choice for peak wildflower season of July. You will not have showers in National Forest Campgrounds or dispersed camping. However, you can obtain showers and a swimming pool in Silverthorne Recreation Center or boil water in camp to get clean.

Campground in Illinois for a young group?

Peter

Me and a few of my friends (were 18) are looking for a campground where we can stay for a night with a tent around northern IL or south WI as we are coming from chicago. Looking for a place good for a young group like us, not a family place where we have to be quiet after 9 PM. If you know a good place let me know, thanks.

Answer
Based on my knowledge, the Lake Louise Camping Resort in Byron is great. Well, they get natural sand beaches and many other great facilities.
Info: 8840 Route 2, Bryon, IL 61010, (815) 234-8483

Other recommendation include:
**Emerald Trails Campground in Crete
3132 East Goodenow Road, Crete, IL 60417, (800) 870-8357
Itâs next to Lake Jewel and get nature trails, stores, pavilion, playground and swimming pond etc.

**Hide-A-Way Lakes in Yorkville
8045 Van Emmon Road, Yorkville, IL 60560, (630) 553-6323
It can be found close to Fox River. This campground features a number of nature trails for great hiking experience, horseshoe tournaments, game room and playground. It might be what you want.

I live in Miami and I am looking for some good camping grounds in south Florida ( I am willing to drive a maximum of 6 hours north if needed). My family and I will be using tents as well. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would love to be able to fish at the site as well. Cost is no problem if required :)

Need recommendation for a hotel near Yosemite National Park?

Annieme71

We are going to visit Yosemite for a day in September. Is there a nice place at around the park to stay or do you have to stay in a nearby town?

Answer
Hey there! September is a really good time to visit, once some of the summer-vacation crowds have left. I used to live and work in the Yosemite area, and have tried many of the places to stay both in and around the park. Here are some recommendations.

*INSIDE YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK*

In Yosemite Valley, the heart of the park, the cabins at Curry Village are fun, though the safari-style tents may be too rustic if you're not into camping. The Lodge at Yosemite Falls has typical cookie-cutter motel rooms -- not worth the price. If money is no object, the Ahwahnee hotel is luxurious.

In the southern part of the park, near the biggest redwood tree grove, the Wawona Hotel is an old-fashioned place. If you'd rather stay up in the high country of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park has tent cabin lodging near Tuolumne Meadows that's fun for families, though a bit rustic.

You can find out more info about all of these in-park accommodations here:

http://www.yosemitepark.com/

*OUTSIDE YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK*

Most of the towns near the park entrances offer basic motel and hotel lodgings, mostly chains, at inflated prices. I've found the fairest deals in Oakhurst, just south of the park. You can peruse recent traveler reviews here:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g32809-Oakhurst_California-Hotels.html

Otherwise, Groveland (northwest of the park) has some good options, too, in many price ranges. Our all-time favorite place to stay near Yosemite is the Evergreen Lodge:

http://www.evergreenlodge.com/

Just outside the park's west entrance, the hostel-like Yosemite Bug has cozy cabins, tents and dorms for budget travelers, family-style:

Any other questions, just ask! Happy to share what I know about Yosemite. You can click on my profile to email me, too, if you prefer.
