Looking for camping sites in West Virginia?

cayuum 2

We have a group of friends ( all late 30's and early 40's) We are looking for a great camp site in West Virginia which offers outdoor camp sites plus cabins close by. We are just going for a weekend to hang out, fish, and golf. All guys, no children. Coming from Richmond, VA and Ohio and we like to meet somewhere in the middle. We aren't loud or a bunch of hellraisers, we just get together once a Summer to hang out and enjoy a weekend away. Please help
Looked at that site, tough to choose, looking for personal experiences. Thank you!

Anyone know about a construction site near Wheeling, West Virginia?

kcat

I heard about a huge construction project outside of Wheeling, W.Va. off of 76 or 78. It includes a store called Garbella's or something similar to that and will include many other stores before it's finished. Does anyone know anything about this project?
If I could even find out what its cross streets are, that would help.

Answer
Found the following information with a "g------" (nasty word on a Yahoo site) search. The following is taken from the third site:

Part of the project and its impact on tourism has already occurred. Another portion has hit some bureaucratic red tape. Another glittering component opens Friday.

Cabelaâs, the worldâs foremost outfitter, built a 176,000 square foot store on the property -- with supplies ranging from hunting, camping and archery gear to cabin furnishings, paintball guns, boating equipment, and hunting clothing. It proved a hot ticket having drawn over four million shoppers since its August 2004 opening.

The match fit almost heaven particularly since the super outdoor supply location would be the only one between Hamburg, Pa. and Dundee, Michigan. Now, the location has snagged Kohlâs and J.C. Penney, as well as Target, T.J. Maxx and Wal-Mart.

Like Pullman Square, thereâs a book store (Books-A-Million), Cold Stone Creamery, Starbucks Coffee, Verizon Wireless, a bank (Wesbanco) and an Italian restaurant (Olive Garden). Old Navy and Panera Bread call the place home too. The Funny Bone Comedy Club and Fat Fish Blue Restaurant along with Best Buy are planned in the âPower Centerâ portion of the development.

One of the entertainment projects --- Marquee Cinemas --- opens Friday , Aug 8 with 14 state of the art screens in an upscale setting.

The following link to the google maps page I was looking at may work. If not just try Cabela's, Wheeling, West Virginia in a map site and you should find it.

Happy shopping! I don't live near there but sounds like it will be quite huge if all the stores actually are or get built!

Looking for a perfect campground in West Virginia?

Christophe

4 friends and I want to go camping this summer. I'm looking for a campground that best meets these criteria:

Close (we live in northeast Ohio, so this side of WV would be preferable, 4-5 hours away).

Primitive/Bare bones basic site (we don't want electricity, stoves, or any luxuries; we would prefer a bathroom, though).

Water nearby (a body of water, whether it is a stream, river, lake, pond, anything substantial).

Someplace we can climb on stuff and hike

Something without a ton of people (not busy).

Someplace we are not going to be killed by mutants (a place we will be safe, unlike in Wrong Turn)

And/or you can list and describe campgrounds you've been to in WV, where they are located, and what it was like based on what I was asking above.

Thanks!

OMG c kayak .......... Hearts Content, I owned a cabin there for years. BEAUTIFUL area. Pigeon, Segel, brought back some memories. I live in Florida now. Darn you made me miss those times when I really had a life. Before moving to FL.

I would also consider camping in Wayne National Forest southern Ohio. It is near Nelsonville, Ohio. Being a national park you can camp anywhere. Main rule is just don't burn the place down. They do however at times have National Guard maneuvers. It is ok though they do not close the place and you can watch and hear the fireworks.
First year I went there about 1992 we were enjoying the left over trip wired boobie traps they left. Not more than a flash bang or flare.

Wayne National forest named after Crazy Andrew Wayne. He and Indian chief Tecumseh had it in for each other though that area. Lots of caves, rocks, rock climbing, old county roads that were abandoned 100 years ago. Just a really cool area of Ohio. Real wild Ohio as it was long ago.

Camping in March in the east?

Woogie

Some buddys and I are planing to go camping at the end of march. I live in Ohio and I am looking for a place with a lake and secluded camp sites. I am will to travel as far as Florida but the close the better (maybe like Georgia or Kentucky). If there were bars close that would be nice (we are colleges student). Feel free to post any good idea.

Answer
I enjoy camping in the New River Gorge area of West Virginia. You can find primitive camping and good ole "car camping". There is great white water rafting, and it is pretty inexpensive. Check out Wildwater. There are a few bars in the area. You can also get some 4 wheelin in if you are discreet about it. Check out the High Country Cafe for great wood grilled pizza and many different types of beer.

Okay, I am a broke college student who is trying to have a good time for spring break but not spend too much money. Me and 3 of my friends are looking to stay at a camp site. We are from NJ and are looking to stay at either Southern Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, or even Virginia (Northern). Can someone help me out with a safe, fun, cool place???
Thank you!

Me and my husband are looking for a cheap used camper trailer?

Chera-kee

It has to be in west virginia.Around the hundreds plz help us we need sites and everything before saturday like this saturday thank you.

Answer
Hi,
It might not be practical to find a cheap used camper trailer in only a few days, but you can meet your goal of going camping this weekend! I'd like to suggest that you consider purchasing a tent and some air mattresses for this weekend, this is a goal that you can meet fairly easily. If you don't already have sleeping bags, add those to your list. Even when you move up to your actual goal to purchase a cheap used camper trailer, the sleeping bags will come in handy. I've listed a few camper articles for you to look at, the first is regarding buying a camper at the eBay auction site, the second on the camper re-po market. It would be best for you and your family if you wrote out the features that you will need. For example, what is the tow capacity of the vehicle you will use to pull your camper trailer? You'll need to consider that the camper itself will only be a percentage (maybe 60%?) of the overall weight you'll tow, as most people load the trailer prior to pulling it. You'll also need to decide if you want your toilet an sink in the camper or you'll be roughing it, and how many beds you'll need. So I'd like to suggest that you go ahead and go camping this weekend, but take the time you''' need to properly select a unit.

Good luck, and have fun!

Does anyone know of good camping sites in ohio?

juliegisco

i live in southeast ohio, and im planning a camping trip, and was wanting some good input on campgrounds.

Answer
All the state parks are pretty nice but expensive. You don't say what style of camping you are doing. Tent, camper, backpacking? Hocking hills is very nice. Any of the reservoirs (Burr Oak, Seneca lake) have camping. Over in your part of the state you are not too far from Ohio Power rec area. Good fishing and cheap camping there, if you are into that sort of thing. You can get a free permit on line. These people may be a corp. but they have the cheapest camping in Ohio. Look around their pages. Here is a link to apply for a permit. http://www.aep.com/environmental/recreation/recland/permit.aspx But West Virginia is very nice, if you want to go that far. Spruce Knob area.
