Need place to camp for 20 friends in PA, WV, OH, etc.?

Chelle

Hi All! I need suggestions for a campground that me and my friends could get together and just have one great night of camping together. We need to stay within 100-200 miles of Pittsburgh, PA (so OH, WV would be okay) and it needs to be a campground that would let about 20 of us get together and permits alcohol and would not mind if we are noisy, since we haven't seen each other in so long. We are all over 21 and we are actually pretty responsible people (though it probably doesn't sound that way from the post, lol) so we wouldn't leave the site trashed/destroy property - we just don't want to get kicked out a park for being noisy or having alcohol present. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated and welcome. Thank You!

Answer
My favorite place to camp is in Ohio and it is free. It is called Recreation Land and it is own by American Electric Power.
AEPâs ReCreation Land is located in southeast Ohio. You can get there from I70 by going south on 83 exit 169. It is approximately 6 miles South of Cumberland. Alternatively you can come from I77 by taking 78 west exit 25 I believe.
Recreation Land is a 30,000 acre recreation area with several free primitive camp ground. There is over 350 small lakes and ponds in the area and I hear they are great for fishing. The land is made up reclaimed coal mines. AEP did a great job returning it back to nature. When visiting the area I believe it is required that you carry a permit. Permits can be downloaded from Aepâs website. There are plenty of places to hike, bike, explore and camp. You can camp in any of the 8 primitive camp grounds that have a total of 350 sites. Let me repeat that these campgrounds are very primitive. If you like to mountain bike COMBA has several trails in the area and there are lots of old dirt service roads you can ride on. For hikers a portion of the Buckeye trail runs through the area. Horseback riding an hunting is also permitted. More information can be found here.

I highly recommend checking this place out.
It is awesome.

good camping places in pa?

cher

we would like to go camping this summer
we live in pa.. central .. we would like to camp by a lake
does anyone have any places they know of ?

Answer
We go in Franklin Co. in the Allegheny Forest. We rough it camping. We love being in the forest and fishing in the creeks and river. We find good spots that were for the loggers.Always wood in the forest for the campfires, peace and tranquility with the privacy from the woods.Recreation in the fishing (and doing nothing of course). There are spots everywhere you can pitch a tent or set up a camper(no electric or running water)You Have to use your head though! This is camping in the wild. There are wild animals in the woods. We've seen lots of deer and other critters near our camps over the years. So keep your food locked up safely and try to carry more out then you came with(garbage from others too).We love camping in the forest there !!!We try to go 4 - 5 times a year.Wish we could live there full time.
Hope this helps.
Have fun ! : )

Pediatric Cancer camp teen volunteer opportunities?

hihihi

Any place in NJ, PA, or Delaware would be great. Teen volunteer age 17.

Answer
Check out the website of the Children's Oncology Camping Association. There is a listing of camps for children with cancer, as well as contact info for those camps. The camps that I'm familiar with don't necessarily take teen voluntee, but it can't hurt to ask. Some of the camps in the NJ & PA area are Camp Happy Times (which is in PA, but is actually for children coming from NJ), Happiness Is Camping, Camp No Worries, Camp Can-Do... and there are more.

Where Is there a place in pa to go boulderin and tent camping ?

I was looking for a place to go bouldering and then tent camping in pa and idk where to go that will let you camp in privacy so you can have a beer and a fire and like on a mountain or sonething

Answer
Cooper's Rock State Park, about an hour and a half south of Pittsburgh in Northern West Virginia, has great rock climbing and bouldering (Haystack Rock, halfway down the hill from the overlook, is great for bouldering but there are dozens of other cliffs there.) You can camp right across the highway from the Park at Chestnut Ridge campground that has cabins and a lot of various tent sites.

There are also good rock faces for climbing at McConnells Mills State Park about 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh near the intersection of highway I-79 and 422. There are both state and private camping areas in or near the park.

About an hour east of Pittsburgh at Laurel Mountain on Route 30 (east of Ligonier) there is Beam's Rocks which are not all that tall but OK for short climbs, though they will have a lot of vegetation on them this early in the year. There is fairly remote camping there along the hiking trails, especially the portions of the Laurel Highlands Trail that cuts through,

Although many of the camping areas do have formal rules barring alcohol, as long as you are quiet and discreet about it, you are not likely to get hassled for having a couple of beers in the evening at your camp site. If you get stupid and loud, the rangers may nail you but I have never had a ranger bother me as an adult camping in PA.

Be sure and check the restrictions this season on campfires. Due to an infestation of tree-damaging beetles, for the past few years PA campers have been told not to move or collect dead wood for fires. You have to buy split wood or bring your own clean wood to burn to prevent allowing the beetles to spread.

Where is the cheapest place to park and camp near/in the PA Grand Canyons?

Faye

My friend and I want to go camping near/in the PA Grand Canyons (not the actual grand canyons). We don't have much money at all and don't want to stay in the State Parks which is 15-19 dollars a night. I would like somewhere for free or less than 10 bucks a night. We don't want to hike anywhere to camp. We just want to park and camp. Thanks in advance!

Answer
If you're that strapped for funds, perhaps you should delay your trip. Just pitching a tent and camping out isn't smart. Any legitimate campground will charge you at least that much per night. Here's a link:http://www.allcampgrounds.com/blog/?tag=pennsylvania-grand-canyon

Places to go camping in florida or pennsylvania?

kristin22

Anyone who knows of good places to go camping in PA or Fla, please let me know of some nice places we are planning a trip in Fla and then PA, thanks!

Answer
I'm going to agree with some of the answers that have been given out already. Worlds End State Park, Leonard Harrison State Park / Colton Point (Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania) and Hyner View all have magnificent views, and best of all, the first 2 have waterfalls nearby.

Pa State parks website: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/ for SP campground information.

I would personally recommend camping out near Ricketts Glen, but the falls trail is closed from the recent flooding 2 weeks ago. Could be weeks to months to reopen the trails.

The poconos area is nice for rolling mountains and again, waterfalls.

I don't know much about anything other than the Northeastern part of the state yet, but if you care to see some pictures, I'll include my website: http://www.nepaphotographer.com
