Where are some good campsites near Toronto, Canada?

I was wondering if anyone knows a few good places to camp around Toronto? The thing is that I'll be up there Oct. 10 - 15 and a lot of the camp grounds that I saw were closed in October.

The "camping season " in Ontario is just about over by that time , due to the weather getting colder at night. You use the term "up there " so I will assume that you are from the USA ?

By that time it will be getting down to the freezing point, over night, and it starts to rain more often, so I'd really re-consider the idea of sleeping out in a tent. Try a motel, instead.

Provincial campgrounds ( think State Park ) close from September to April, and most private operations do too.

the Wilcox Conservation area used to be a good place to camp and it used to be FREE but you will have to leave your car at the gate because it is usually locked. It is near Orangeville on the 19th line as I remember. I haven't been there in about 10 years or so. There used to be a pump water source at the end of the trail but that was a while ago.

Places to camp near Toronto, CA?

I'm looking for a good spot in Canada, preferably near the border, somewhere no more than 12 hours away (I live in South Jersey). I want to camp with my friends in a safe area with water nearby, but not on a camp ground. We're planning on going in March and not too many camp grounds will be open at that time. Also, we want it to be a unique experience with no other people/families around. Thanks

Be prepared to be in deep snow, and in temps of 15 or 20 F, with a raw wind blowing off Lake Ontario.

Way too soon to be camping here. Do it in MAY, not March.

Now, for the location in MAY..............It is not legal to camp on private property in Canada. And any land that is NOT private is owned by the Provincial Government, and that is also a no-no unless it is a Provincial Park (like a NJ state park ) where there are rules and entrance fees.

In so many words ..........you can't do that in Ontario.

I might go to Toronto for a day, but I don't want to drive 5hrs back at night and don't want/need a hotel room, I can easily sleep in my car. I was wondering if someone knew of a place, maybe a park or camp site or something similar, where I could park and safely sleep in my car

There's Glen Rouge campground just east of Toronto, or you can check with the Ontario Parks site. They have a few places not far from Toronto. But check the operating dates carefully. Many are closed by now. Failing any of those, google "Toronto truck stops". Truck stops aren't bad places to catch a few winks if you can find a relatively quiet corner. There are usually trucks coming and going all night, but there are washrooms and a place to get food at all of them.

What are some great private campgrounds near Toronto?

I am looking for something within a 1-3 hour drive from Toronto. Clean sandy beaches or lakes for swimming! I would love to be able to set up camp right off or very close to the water. Privacy is a must! I dont want to be too close to other campers. Hiking/Walking Trails would be nice. Flush toilets. Picnic tables and fire pits for each camp area arnt a must but would be a nice bonus!

But if it's privately run parks, your best bet is to "Google" the area's tourism board. The beaches on Lake Huron are really nice...

We have been to Algonquin Park every year since 2004 and I must say, it is the best camping place and we decided to try something new. So what are the best places to camp in PEI. Preferably near the ocean.

I just moved to Toronto and i wanted to set up a camping trip, i don't want to have to drive more then 2 hours from Toronto and i wanted to rent a cabin anyone have suggestions for a place that's decently priced (we're only going to be there for a few days ) It can be in a camp ground I do have a 3 year old so if its family oriented that would be lovely!

thankfully, toronto is next to a whole lot of great outdoors and has memorable camping places. Now, if you could drive about 3 or 4 hours, then i'd say that you should definitely check out algonquin provincial park. But i understand that you can only drive only 2 hours and with a 3 year old with you, it really can be hard to travel to far places. Try getting a cabin near orillia which is a city about 1 and and a half north or toronto or barrie which is only 1 hour away. The region around lake simcoe is great for fishing and its scenery and also it is a great place for families to visit. Here it is on a map:

The kawartha lakes is also a nice place to find a cabin for rent. The lakes are very calm and nice. The region is shown here
